New site changes

I’ll go ahead and introduce the elephant in the room.  Obviously, the layout has changed.  The sidebar that used to be on the left is now on the bottom.  The admin nav is still on the right, but in a horizontal style. There is argyle.  There are transparencies.  On the profile pages, the photos have moved over to the right side of the content, and the basic profile info is on the top instead of the right.  If any of it is offensive or ugly, let me know.  If you like it, let me know. If you want to design your own theme, let me know.  If you just don’t care at all, let me know that too!  If I get enough design input I am going to look into using a theme manager plugin to allow you to choose your own themes.  You don’t have to ever have designed a website to help with this, just get out some crayons and go to work, and pass it off to me so I can make the layout.  If you do want to explore with CSS, make up the basic 4 pages (profile page, single post view, multiple post view, page style) and I can either translate that into a theme or send you the existing theme for you to translate.

I would love if someone would send me our logo so I can pop a tiny logo up in the header area. Bob, Miguel?

Part of these changes will not render properly in IE6 right off the bat.  I might think about supporting IE6 slowly, but since this is kind of my “fun” project I sort of really don’t want to.  Those of you that use IE6 (hi grandma & grandpa!) will get a friendly reminder of how much IE6 sucks every time you reload the page, in the form of a dropdown tab with a link to a webpage where you can find other browsers to download. Download a different browser, at least on your personal computers, for f**k’s sake!  Check out this fun site with things that are younger than IE6.  There are a few “advanced” CSS techniques that IE6 is just blind to that every other browser has been able to handle since 2002, like the positioning of the header and footer, png transparency under linked items.

Something fun that I’m still testing, so you guys are all going to be guinea pigs for : live comment notifications.  While you are on the site and someone makes a comment on a different page, you should get a small popup of that comment for about 10 seconds, with a link to check out the comment.  Please do not hesitate to let me know if this is causing any problems for you, and I will make adjustments immediately.

Thanks for using the site!

For those ridin’ dirty

Or just for kids that aren’t so legal yet, or drivers in general: check out Trapster, an application for the iPhone plus other devices.  It alerts you to upcoming speed traps and police hiding spots as you drive.  Maybe it could help with ride planning if we check our routes against it.  I can’t really imagine how easy it would be to listen to aural trap reports while riding a moped, but maybe with headphones.

Anyway, it’s free.  I downloaded it today, I’ll comment back when I’ve tried it out more.

We got a write up in one of my favorite blogs!

Apparently we got some attention at our party on 39th.  Several people at work have come up to me asking if there was a “block party” going down on Division over the weekend.  Rowdy rowdy!

Check out the blog, there’s a lot of truth buried within.

Yay, rally.  Thank you to everyone who came out to play, thank you to everyone that bought raffle tickets (except for you Nick, you’re welcome for the $40 Tomos!), thank you to those that donated to help Steve, and a HUGE thank you for everyone that went balls-out to make this rally amazing.

You can still download the rally map and the workbook and the rally flyer.

Please tag your photos with holdmybeer08!  Stop by our new Photos page, we have added the last 20 photos to be tagged with puddlecutters.  Thanks again, we miss you already!
